There’s something very special about being the recipient of a gorgeous bunch of flowers but we all want those blooms to stay looking fabulous. At Brizzie Baskets & Blooms we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeve to ensure the beautiful Spring blooms we send you last as long as possible. Our lovely florist Jaclyn Kemp says the choice of blooms is important: some will stay looking fresh for longer than others. “The best choice for longevity would have to be native Australian blooms like the proteas, leucadendrons and banksias,” she said. “They are so hardy.” “Native blooms really give you twice the shelf life than other flowers.” “There are many lovely native fillers and the... continue reading

The Gift of Giving

22 May 2015 click here to comment

Recently over a coffee with girlfriends we swapped stories about shocking gifts we’ve been given over the years. I have never laughed so much in my life. I’ve got so many examples of terrible gifts I’ve unwrapped over 40 years that I had to be careful to wait my turn and let the other girls have their go. In fact, I could probably write a book of short stories devoted to the mountain of presents I’ve received over the years that I haven’t wanted - presents that have squashed the bubbling feelings of anticipation in the unwrapping process into festering disappointment. I think I’d call it The Crap Unwrap. The clincher for me was the ugly onion and potato bag set I unwrapped on my 37th birthday from my mother-in-law. In fairness it was lined, but it certainly wasn't what I was hoping for. You see, I think unless t... continue reading

Gratitude - The mantra of the current decade.

By on 10 July 2014 click here to comment

Gratitude journals, both photographic and written, are to 2014 what self-help books and relaxation tapes were in the 1990s. Everywhere I look someone is singing a song of gratitude. On social media we have 365 Grateful , Oprah, who has long sung the praise of gratitude, writes about the benefits of keeping a grateful journal to her followers and here in the land of beautifully wrapped presents we see acts of gratitude every day in the form of gift giving. More and more people are looking for good, not only as a road to happiness but also to provide a little meaning. It strikes me that this is the true essence of gift giving. Here at Brizzie Baskets we see the full circle of gratitude – we celebrate weddings, engagements and birthdays (gratitude for love and life!) and we send thank you gifts from ‘Thanks for mowing the l... continue reading

Brizzie 2013 in Review

By on 27 November 2013 click here to comment

It has been another big year at Brizzie. Our picnic baskets have made appearances at the bmag Teddy Bears Picnic and the Cerebral Palsy League Picnic in the Park, as well as at birthday parties and romantic celebrations. One of our lovely customers planned a birthday party for her friend at a local outdoor cinema, packed ‘the picnic to end all picnics’ and presented her friend with the basket as a gift at the end of the night. Another customer arranged for a Sparkling Wine Celebration Gift to be delivered to a public ferry terminal and had her friend called over the PA system to receive her gift en route to her holiday destination. During the year we have come across so many thoughtful people and we love to play a part in every celebration! We have also had our own professional celebrations with our trainee florist, Jaci, nearing completion of he... continue reading

The baby bunting is a lovely keepsake to adorn baby’s nursery or to decorate her first birthday party where she can also wear her matching headband and bib! We have also just released the Winter Baby Gift Hamper (neutral colours for a baby boy or girl) and the It’s a Girl and It’s A Boy Gift Hampers (great value baby gift boxes with lots of practical items such as socks, bibs, flannel wraps and quality baby bath p... continue reading

What Mums Want

By on 7 May 2013 click here to comment

With Mother’s Day this Sunday 12 May I thought it fitting this week that I write this blog as a mum.It only takes a quick glance around the school yard to find that all mums are different – there are sporty mums, crafty mums, laid back mums and mums (like me) who live in a blissfully blind panic trying to keep up with their kids. However, for all the dads and kids out there trying to find the perfect Mother’s Day gift, I can tell you there are some gifts which would suit almost all mums. 1. Any gift that promotes peace and quiet – Mums with children still at home seem to be constantly followed by raucous noise, and as lovely as this can be (i.e. they never feel lonely), an hour of uninterrupted solitude would probably be pretty highly regarded. An hour to sit back, read a book and have a cup of tea may be just the gift to show mum how much you care. 2. Any gift that promotes pampering and relaxation – What mum would sniff her nos... continue reading
